Varun & Maria met in Singapore, which already gives this wedding the kind of geography I love: not just one place, but a whole network of people, food, flights, accents, stories, and airport codes.
Maria is a mixologist and currently a, or should I say the Bacardi brand ambassador in Asia. Varun loves coffee, very seriously, and also runs in the fitness entrepreneur lane. Which means, naturally, their wedding weekend in Da Nang had a little bit of everything: good drinks, good caffeine energy, very good clothes, and a guest list - folks from Singapore, Hong Kong, London, South Korea, Russia, India. The vibe was properly international, but still warm and personal.
I shot solo hybrid, both photography and video, whilst (hehe) working alongside a team from Singapore who could cover the necessary formal parts and help fill in the blanks. Group shots, safe coverage, extra angles, the logistical heavy lifting. That freed me up to do what I’m best at: observe quietly, follow the emotional current, and look for the frames that feel like the wedding rather than just document what happened.
Tiny confession, and I am swallowing my Leica pride here: a lot of my favorite keepers from this set came from the Sony. I mounted a 75mm cine lens on it, stood farther back, and let the frame breathe. It let me stay out of the way of the guests, the couple, and the four-person Singapore team, while still finding those little pockets of story happening between the obvious moments.
This was also the second shoot in a four-week run. I had just come from Hong Kong a week earlier and was flying to Tokyo a few days after. Somewhere between the Da Nang beach air, the string lights, the Korean and Indian attire exchange at the welcome dinner, and the beachfront ceremony at Hyatt Regency Danang Resort and Spa, the adrenaline very much carried me. Tired, yes. Grateful, absolutely. Functioning on grace, coffee, and camera batteries, also yes.
