el nido elopement — ankla resort nacpan beach

Michael and Kalina came all the way from the United States for an intimate El Nido elopement. They had explored several resort options during the planning stage, with more than a few changes when certain arrangements simply refused to fall into place. Through all of it, redsheep remained their one constant, their non-negotiable from the very beginning. Quietly honored, NGL. 😊

This was also the penultimate chapter of two glorious weeks in El Nido for me: four shoots, three couples, and absolutely no complaints about having the Bacuit Bay islands as my temporary office. Michael and Kalina’s wedding was the first of our two shoots together. The following day, we traded wedding clothes for swimwear and headed out for an island-hopping adventure session.

Most of my El Nido weddings take place at the El Nido Resorts island properties: Pangulasian, Miniloc, and Lagen. They remain beautiful for very good reason, but it was refreshing to photograph a quieter mainland alternative at Angkla on Nacpan Beach. Far from the busier parts of El Nido Town, Corong-Corong and Las Cabanas, the resort gave us tropical gardens, an open shoreline, and enough breathing room for the day to unfold without feeling like a production.

Case in point: the swimming-pool photographs were taken only three hours before the ceremony. While larger city weddings can spend roughly that amount of time on hair and makeup alone, Michael and Kalina were still swimming, sharing drinks, and enjoying the afternoon. That is one of the great luxuries of an elopement—not extravagance for its own sake, but time that still feels like your own.

It was February, only a few weeks before the Philippine summer, with strong coastal wind but none of the heavy overcast that sometimes comes with it. The breeze carried Kalina’s veil through the portraits, softened the heat, and stayed with us through the ceremony, golden hour, and their private dinner beneath the lights.

And happily, the story did not end on the wedding day. Michael and Kalina selected a handful of photographs to print and frame for their new home in the United States, including their favorite: the aerial frame of them walking alone along Nacpan Beach. The next time they return to the Philippines, redsheep will be photographing them again, this time with their family. From elopement to island hopping to whatever comes next. I love when the photographs become part of a longer story.

The gallery and wedding highlights video follow Michael and Kalina through relaxed poolside moments, a windswept beach ceremony, golden-hour couple portraits, aerial drone photography, and a private candlelit dinner by the sea.
