Destination Wedding Videos. Or Destination Wedding Films rather. (I prefer using the F-word because it connotes something crafted... something... cinematic.)
We've compiled a handful of our short films that accurately represent our brand* of filmmaking:
(Wooohoo! redsheep binge-watching for beginners!)
Destination Wedding Films
El Nido Elopement (John & Angela)
El Nido Destination Wedding (Janis & Zane)
Bali Destination Wedding (Ryan & Angela)
Venice Destination Wedding
Nikitsch, Austria Destination Wedding (Jacob & Sabine)
Batanes Destination Wedding (Mac & Jhunie)
Kilkenny, Ireland Destination Wedding (Daniel & Sheila)
Wilson Phillips "Bridesmaids" Surprise in Bali (Mike & Liz)
Sydney Destination Wedding - Same Day Edit (Em & Van)
Engagement Session Save the Date Films
Roadtrip Engagement Session Teaser (Koke & Pam)
Singapore Engagement Session (Ibuki & Emi)
Zambales Engagement Session (Dave & Aby)
*redsheep short films are generally characterized by the following:
- mood & treatment: natural, candid, not overly directed, nothing too contrived; having overtones of intimacy and authenticity.
- camera movement: handheld as much as possible. Drones? Only upon request. But if it were up to me, I'd do it entirely handheld. Minimalist gear setup: the less that it feels like a shoot, the better.
- content: People-people-place-people-place. No ring shots, gown shots, make up shots since 2011.
- look & feel: filmic, cinematic
- location: *wink wink*
- lighting: natural light
- and, song choice: timeless, preferably nothing too mainstream unless it gives a faithful representation of the couple or the day itself.
We've also included some "legacy" videos that were filmed before 2014. Some aspects, such as camera movement, are no longer consistent with our brand. (i.e., We don't use dollies, cranes and jibs anymore; we use stabilizers and steadicams sparingly.)
redsheep "Legacy" Films (pre-2014)
El Nido Destination Wedding (Dawid & Karolina)
Singapore Wedding (Adam & Emily)
El Nido Destination Wedding - Same Day Edit (Raphael & Daniela)
Thanks and happy watching!
When your then boyfriend makes a song for you and eight years later, you use it for your wedding video. #relatable
On a serious note, this song, "The Island" by John Hardwick - the groom himself! - is simply beautiful and we're so honored to use it for our very first elopement film.
January 29, 2017. 7:20 AM. As I was waiting for the boat to take us to the island, I read an email from Angela that was sent the day before. The words “EXTREME rain tomorrow during our entire ceremony” leaped from the screen of my beloved P9. And all the weather apps in Androidom and iOSphere concurred: the chance of extreme rain was indeed high and very likely, borderline “a definite certainity”, right at the corner of “you’re damn right” avenue. But strangely, being a control freak and all, I felt this sense of calm that was totally the opposite of what was evoked by the dark, foreboding clouds that were already upon us. I mean, I’ve seen the good Lord calm waves, clear up skies, and grant us a Milky Way shot in what should have been an extremely cloudy, let alone starless night. [This one.] Hardcore Grace FTW. And even if it did rain, I was glad to know that John, Angela and I were all on the same page: we will shoot outdoors no matter what, and no amount of rain will drive us inside a conference room or a clubhouse. (You can still see the threat of extreme rain in most of the photos.)
Fun Fact: The photos in this portfolio blog entry are 95% organic. As always, I just tell my clients where to stand; the what’s, when’s, and how’s are kept as candid and organic as possible.
Not-so-Fun Opinion: Like steak sauce or gravy to a 28-day Dry Aged Bone-in Rib Eye are intrusive instructions and contrived poses to what are otherwise genuinely spontaneous moments together.
John & Angela’s El Nido, Palawan Elopement.
Shot and filmed on location: Pangulasian Island Resort and Lagen Cove 2, El Nido Resorts, El Nido, Palawan, Philippines. Lead Cinematographer: Klara Fernandez. Photographer/Cinematographer/Editor/Colorist: Guj Tungpalan.
I don't know exactly how to introduce Ryan & Angela's Bali wedding film:
...how it was done almost entirely handheld and intentionally without a steadicam, or how Angela and her bridesmaids did their own hair and makeup (and how boys, given ample pool time, will always be boys), or how an intimate wedding with just 14 guests allowed us to give at least a second of exposure for each one of them, or how cool it is that everyone flew in from the US, or how thinking out loud already does the job of introducing Ryan & Angela's Bali wedding film.
Filmed and shot on location: Villa Atas Awan, Ubud, Bali.
Nedal is a fellow street photographer, which goes without saying that she wanted a full-on, 100% photojournalistic, street photography shoot for her elopement in Apulit. [Absolutely no posing, I swear!!!]
Interestingly enough, Struan and Nedal met in a street protest in Sydney, so while doing the shoot, we had an intellectual exchange that revolved around varying political worldviews: from the Apartheid, to Australia Day-Invasion Day and how the Aboriginals are the most marginalized ethnic group in the world (and how the world isn't aware of it!), not to mention the ever-controversial plight of Palestinians in Israel (or Palestine, depending on which side of the fence you're on). (For the record, I'm pro-Israel - my Lord and Savior was a Jewish carpenter - but it would do everyone a favor if we just sat down and listened to each other. Respect.) Excuse me while I play my Rage Against the Machine Spotify playlist and detune my guitar to Drop D.
Struan & Nedal’s El Nido Resorts, Palawan Elopement.
Shot (100% candidly) on location: Apulit Island Resort, El Nido Resorts, Taytay, Palawan, Philippines.
This is what I really like about El Nido: throw awfully bad weather at it and it still looks ethereally beautiful. This, and the vibe, the sandbars and sunset bars, a horizon that's never boring, and the pizza, definitely the pizza. El Nido = LOVE.
Piotr & Karolina's El Nido Destination Wedding. Shot & filmed on location: Stunning Republic, Corong Corong, El Nido, Palawan, Philippines. Photos and additional video: Guj Tungpalan. Video and additional photos: Klara Fernandez.
Considering an elopement in Pangulasian? Here's a tip: get Villa #28.
It arguably has the best view of the resort's beachfront, and it even has its own swimming pool - perfect for that pre-dressing up downtime-chilltime that's distinctive of an elopement - and an infinity pool at that, one having a perfect view of Pangulasian's sandy cove and Bacuit Bay's outlying islands.
Oh, and one more thing: that evening was LIT! Not that kind of "LIT". The other kind of "LIT" - literally LIT (i.e., "well lit", not "this party is lit, fam!"). Thanks to a bright full moon that we saw rising from the east almost simultaneously as the sun was setting! So surreal!
Aaron & Gaby's El Nido, Palawan Elopement. Shot on location: Pangulasian Island Resort, El Nido Resorts and Big Lagoon Beach, El Nido, Palawan, Philippines.
If you’re a Malmöit (cool demonym huh?), you would have enjoyed that weekend: clear skies, bright sunny and all; not the other kind of Scandinavian “summer" - rainy, gloomy and grey - which was exactly the case a few days earlier.
Ronald & Johanna's Malmö engagement session. Shot and filmed on location: Malmö, Scania, Sweden.
11.2016 El Nido Resorts Elopement. Lagen Island Resort, El Nido Resorts, El Nido, Palawan, Philippines. Matt & Elizabeth. LAX > MNL/ENI, followed by their two-week adventure "tour des îles" from Cebu, Bohol, Siargao and finally, one night in Manila for a cup of good third wave coffee before flying back home. (The French Press coffee in El Nido town didn't disappoint either!)
Leica M. Sony A7R II & A7S II. Voigtlander primes. VSCO Film.
Sneak Peek Post! Mick & Kalena's El Nido Destination Wedding. Shot & filmed on location: Lagen Island Resort, Entalula Island (Beach Wedding) and Dibuluan Island (Welcome Dinner), El Nido Resorts, El Nido, Palawan, Philippines.
Don & FT's Singapore Wedding, right in the middle of Downtown Core. Fun Fact: Art Deco imagery in the wedding details and the reception setup were made (with love) by Don!
Filmed on location: The Fullerton Hotel, Empress and Privé at the Asian Civilizations Museum, Downtown Core, Singapore. redsheep Cinema + M Weddings (Photo).
A Tale of Three Milky Way Photos
Part One: "Spoon-fed, from a Silver Platter"
Dark sky location, check.
Above cloud cover, check. (9,300 ft above sea level!)
Low humidity, check.
Good weather, check.
Away from artificial light with virtually zero light pollution... Check. Even with a bright quarter moon, you still have a fighting chance - definitely the right place to shoot a Milky Way. In fact, this is one of the best places in the world to do this. You just have to be there at the right time to shoot the Milky Way's Galactic Center: that insanely picturesque and ethereally beautiful cloudy cluster of red giant stars. And being there at the right time without planning for it? That's a God-orchestrated "qarah" moment.
Ryan & Angela's engagement session/adventure session. Shot on location: Mauna Kea Observatory and Kona lava fields, Hawaii (Big Island), HI, USA.
It's by far the most beautiful sunset that I've ever seen:
The locals and the El Nido Resorts staff agree. If these guys who get to experience this daily say that it the most beautiful sunset, then it IS the most beautiful sunset!
And to think that we almost gave up on our sunset cruise: the late afternoon sky, as seen from Big Lagoon Beach, was dark, gloomy and covered with a thick layer of clouds. This, the oh so bland sky, was a stark contrast to what was Bernhard & Joanna's wedding cake: Hotel Sacher Vienna’s Sachertorte!!! A chocolate sponge covered with chocolate icing, and filled with a layer - or two - of apricot jam. (Ohh that was really really really good!!! They said it’s best served with whipped cream).
Now where was I... O yes, the sunset! Going back, we trusted our instincts and still went for the sunset cruise. *voila* This amazing view surprised us! It was grace that - quite literally - was showered on us from above. We are so much grateful for this surreal moment that we all experienced. And thank You also for that striated layer of clouds that filled the sky - like a fluffy carpet unrolled for us by the good Lord himself! [I’m still in awe whenever I see the portrait].
This is what I love about beach weddings - El Nido weddings in particular: the weather is very unpredictable, but it can and it will surprise you, literally adding colors and hues to the story that is your big day!
'till next time!
Sneak Peek Post! Ronald & Johanna's El Nido Destination Wedding. Shot & filmed on location: Lagen Island Resort, El Nido Resorts, El Nido, Palawan, Philippines.
Original music by redsheep.
Seph & Chris’ Taytay, Palawan Destination Wedding.
Shot on location: Apulit Island Resort, El Nido Resorts, Taytay, Palawan, Philippines. Taytay is an hour and a half South of El Nido.
This - Seph & Chris’ destination wedding - would be my testament on how far I could go in shooting a wedding photojournalistically. Some couples would get us because of the travel factor in our photos: those tiny people-big big sky shots or those ethereal Milky Way and night sky shots; some, for the filmic quality, but Seph and Chris, they were drawn to the photojournalistic and reportage aspect. This set might be a bit too street photography-style, gritty and anti-glam for your usual Wedding Pinterest Board - body ink, alcohol, dark shadows and all. I even left out photos of the gown, shoes, bridal bouquet and the other usual wedding details for good measure. All these, because one - to prove a point, that you can be both photojournalistic and picturesque at the same time, and two - because I frickin’ love to shoot this way.
Maia Torres. Debutante Portraits (Pre-Debut).
Shot and filmed on location: Shibuya and Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. Legazpi Sunday Market, Yardstick Coffee, Legazpi Village, Makati City, Metro Manila, Philippines.
When Joyce (@thedelightfulmissjoyce) contacted me about the prospect of doing a debutante shoot for Maia, her cousin, I was hesitant. (I just Googled “hesitant thesaurus” right now. I’m looking for something with a stronger connotation. Oh well, "hesitant" would do.) Debutante portraits - isn’t that shooting young ladies about to turn 18, long gown and all, with a princess-like demeanor? Nothing wrong with it, except that I’m not good at it. Honestly. Seriously. (Shhhh… but I’m really not good at making people pose editorial style. Don’t tell anyone. *chuckles* Kidding. It’s no secret.) So there, I was already preparing my list of 20++ photographers that they can consider - colleagues and industry friends who I’m sure can and will do a better job than me in doing shoots like this. But when I met Maia for the first time, I learned that her favorite post from my site was my Street Photography Gallery of Stockholm and Copenhagen, and that she would like to do something similar for her pre-debut Portrait Session. “Oh, cool. She knows what she wants, she knows what our brand stands for, and she knows what she’s getting into. Street is the shiz.”, I figured.
So there, what happened next, in two cites almost 3,000 kilometers apart, was one of the most enjoyable shoots that I’ve ever done in my career. MAnila:MAia and TOrres:TOkyo was just a coincidence. Or perhaps, having subtle undertones of destiny, that this shoot was meant to be.
...well, not exactly Vienna. Jacob & Sabine's picture-perfect garden wedding was held at Schloss Nikitsch, 98km south of Vienna, just a stone's throw away from Austria's shared border with Hungary.
Our portfolio entries are anything but detail intensive, but heck, this just might be enough to compensate for all those times wherein we opted to leave them out. Couldn’t help it. Everything was just eye candy - simple yet elegant - basking in gloriously warm summer light.

That's all we're allowed to disclose. The thing is, this is one of the most [effortlessly] beautiful weddings that we've ever done.

Sneak peek post! Write up to follow! :)
Stunning Republic Resort & Papaya Beach, El Nido, Palawan, Philippines. Janis & Zane (LHR > MNL/ENI). Intimate beach destination wedding.
A seemingly relentless tropical downpour. Just two hours left before your beach wedding. What will you do? For Janis & Zane, it's as simple as this: #suckitup.
After all, "RAIN" is "R-A-I-N", not "R-U-I-N." Cheesy and preachy as it may sound, what spells the difference between the two is "U".
Imagery & original music (for the Instagram video) by redsheep.
Nacpan Beach, El Nido, Palawan, Philippines. Janis & Zane (LHR > MNL/ENI). "Day Before" beach engagement session.
Serendipitous. [ser-uh n-dip-i-tuh s] adj.
4. Sitting beside a total stranger on a plane, who happens to be going to the same summer music festival that you're going to. And as it turns out, that someone also likes the same music - and tons of other stuff - that you also like. To add to that, both of you have been living in the same city (London), and were born in the same country (Latvia). Janis & Zane's story. Total strangers. Sitting beside each other. On a plane. Going to the same summer music festival. Oh, did I say that already? #truestorybro
Miniloc, Apulit, Pangulasian, and finally... Lagen Island, El Nido Resorts.
So it's Lagen for the sunset and the sandbar.
Miniloc for the local feel and the proximity to the Big Lagoon (think: kayaking to the Big Lagoon before the tourists arrive).
Pangulasian if you want both a sunrise and sunset, and…
Apulit for a Rio-ish cliff vista, milky way shots and for black-tip reef sharks just below your water cottage. (Amazing actually. They're harmless. Definitely not like watching an episode of #damnnatureyouscary on BET.)
Watch out for redsheep's Guide to Getting Married in El Nido. Coming soon. "Soon", meaning, when I have the extra time to actually do it. *chuckles*
Kevin & Anna’s El Nido Elopement. Shot on location: Lagen Island, Big Lagoon Beach and the Big Lagoon, El Nido, Palawan, Philippines.
Where to shoot an engagement session El Nido?
Pinagbuyutan Island for that quintessential tropical island feel. ('em coconut trees! Hey, look! I'm in the Philippines!) Helicopter Island for a breathtaking view of iconic Cadlao Island, and Big Lagoon for it's Big... errr... Lagoon. Seriously speaking, go there before 9:00AM, before the whirring from motor boats drowns out that calm, ethereal silence with welcome overtones of birds chirping. Big Lagoon's pristine waters are best enjoyed in a kayak. Heck yeah. And since I'm already at it, yipee ki-yay.
I know it's pricier, but go for a custom tour, and schedule it accordingly, against the flow of tourists. It's ideal to start earlier than 9:00AM, way way before boathoards of selfie stick people turn an otherwise empty tropical beach into a photobo--... or photo minefield rather. No offense to those fond of selfie sticks, but having plenty of people around will make your engagement session significantly more challenging.
Shooting during the sunset hour? Nacpan Beach, hands down. It has a west-facing isthmus of sorts that offers a killer view at any time of the day. What more during the golden hour. But if you're not willing to take the 40-minute trip north of El Nido town, just take a sunset cruise in El Nido bay, just a few clicks west of Miniloc and Entalula Island. Or choose El Nido Resort's Lagen or Pangulasian Islands. If you're staying in El Nido town, master the art of the chill (i.e., doing nothing without getting bored) over some tapas at Republica Sunset Bar, or practically anywhere along Corong-corong Beach. You can also take the dirt road past El Nido Garden, the one going to Cadlao Resort, if you want to see Cadlao Island basking in golden sunlight.
Dinner? Trattoria Altrove. Go for the Prosciutto Pizza. 4th best pizza outside Italy IMHO. The place is usually packed, but there's Trattoria Altrove Express one block away. Hipper vibe, same great pizza.
Oh will you look at that. I was just thinking out loud, hammering away on my keyboard, and there you have it. A travel blog entry of sorts!
Kevin & Anna's engagement session. Shot on location: Pinagbuyutan Island, El Nido Resorts Lagen Island Resort, Helicopter Island and the Big Lagoon. Private tour c/o El Nido Resorts.
A pint of Guinness in an Irish Pub right at the heart of Inistioge Village. This, just minutes before the ceremony in a medieval-looking church across the street. Add to that a bridal prep sequence inside a 250-year-old Gregorian manor house. This is as Irish as it gets. But wait, there’s more… Ireland's warm evening light, and the much warmer company of their closest friends and family. All these, plus an intimate wedding reception at a Michelin Star restaurant. #weddinggoals, ladies and gentlemen, wedding goals.

02.11.2016 Henrique e Evelyne's Apulit Island Resort Elopement/Destination Wedding. Apulit Island Resort (El Nido Resorts), Taytay, Palawan, Philippines.
A Cariocan couple. Speaking fluent Mandarin. (And Portuguese, obviously.) Eloped on an island resort in the Philippines. All these, wrapped in 30 seconds of an Icelandic post-rock tune.
The Perks of an Elopement Entry No. 24a & 24b.
a. The level of stress is basically nil, and it goes without saying what the level of chill is.
b. The level of intimacy, of course. But then again, there's the obvious drawback of not having your loved ones around. (And Henrique took care of that with a surprise video that he made.)
イブキ と エミ with a little bit of Led Zep.
Ibuki & Emi’s Singapore Engagement Session. Little India and Farrer Park over the MBS, Gardens by the Bay, Tiong Bahru and Haji Lane? That's Ibuki and Emi. They wanted to show a Singapore that's closer to their hearts, haze aside.
Little India is home to these fellow Michel Gondry fans, who also share the same disdain for pop music. Thanks for the Otoro & Uni treat guys!
03.09.2016 Mac & Jhunie's Batanes Destination Wedding. Fundacion Pacita & Marlboro Country, Batan Island, Batanes, Philippines.
Go*. Just go**. If Batanes is in your destination wedding short list or travel bucket list, don't think twice. It's been weeks already, but I'm still enthralled by the sheer beauty of this place. And to think that it's my third time shoot in Batanes already! I think it might take three more before I reach the "been there - done that" phase.
And this. The styling. I've seen postcard-worthy locations ruined by event styling that's tastleless and a five-letter "B" word in the vernacular. Definitely, not this one. Go get these guys to do your Batanes wedding. Their sense of aesthetics - *the audience goes oooh* - that's the stuff Pinterest boards are made of.
* ** During the summer months, of course. I've seen Batanes' bad side. It's sad, gloomy, ominous, dank, dark, foreboding, etc... you can say goodbye to those Milky Way shots at night.

A steadfast love. This love story is the epitome of a lasting long distance relationship. An epic venue with an insanely gorgeous view - heck yeah Malibu Rocky Oaks! (And to add to that, here's a cool backstory: this is Mr. Chow's "Mexican" Villa in The Hangover 3. The one where Marshall [John Goodman]'s gold was kept.) This was indeed one cool wedding to film and we're really glad to have been a part of it.
Singapore Wedding | 07.2013
Adam Stamenkovic x Emily Loke’s garden wedding cum Serbian Archery Ceremony, filmed on location: Raffles Hotel, Singapore.
The Serbian archery ceremony: the Ting Hun, Chinese tea ceremony and Pamamanhikan on steroids. You'll need a quiver of thirteen arrows, a bow - anything between Legolas' and Hawkeye's will do - an apple, a 1:1 list of zany consequences for every missed shot, lots of love and determination. (In the most dogmatic form of this Serbian tradition, a miss means the wedding is off.)
Adam, a NY wedding photographer based in Singapore - gifted with a keen eyesight, was able to hit the apple in just a few tries. One day after, Adam his bride and Emily, (founder of Paper Tiger Press, Singapore's first letterpress studio) tied the knot at the iconic Raffles Hotel.

Raphael Bick x Daniela Zheng’s El Nido destination wedding Same Day Edit video, filmed on location: Miniloc, El Nido Resorts, El Nido, Palawan, Philippines.
Raphael and Daniela are seasoned globetrotters. Among all the places that they have been to, they chose our very own El Nido. (Raphael has been to Antarctica! ...and I'm so tempted to use the word "cool". ) Raphael and Daniela's friends are from all over the world (READ: INSEAD - The Business School for the World) and they wanted a place with sheer beauty and charisma that can draw even the busiest investment banker or consultant into a week-long tropical frenzy. In a nutshell, that's 55 guests from 20 different countries. 2 islands, 1 awesome wedding.
The reprise starts at 03:26. Enjoy!

Sam Eslamieh x Ledh dela Cruz’s Bohol destination wedding photos and highlights video. Filmed on location: Amarela Resort, Bohol, Philippines.
A surprise zombie pseudo-bride, a Zoolander inspired pillow fight, an epic groom dressing up sequence a la Ali G, a "first fight" in lieu of a first dance, wedding vows that are rib-tickling yet still heart-warming, and the island of Bohol, whose charm remains unrelenting in spite of 14 hours of downpour. These are just some of the highlights of Sam and Ledh's Amarela Bohol destination wedding.
